THIS YEAR WE TRIED SOMETHING DIFFERENT AT THE ORLANDO HAMCATION. WE SETUP SHOP IN THE TAILGATE AREA INSTEAD OF THE MAIN BUILDING WITH ALL THE OTHER VENDORS. AFTER EVERYONE FIGURES OUT THAT WE HAD CHANGE OUR NORMAL LOCATION FROM INSIDE TO OUTSIDE, WE WERE ONCE AGAIN A COMPLETE SUCCESS!!! ON OUR TENTH PUBLIC OUTING, WE WERE COMPLETELY SOLD OUT OF ANTENNAS AND ACCESSORIES BEFORE LUNCH SATURDAY ONCE AGAIN. WE WERE THEN ABLE TO TALK TO THE MANY HAMS THAT EXPRESSED INTEREST IN THE K4TR LINE OF PRODUCTS. A FEW FORMER CUSTOMERS STOPPED IN AND LET US KNOW HOW THE PRODUCT THEY PURCHASED WAS HOLDING UP UNDER ACTUAL WORKING CONDITIONS. A LOT OF GOOD FIELD DATA WAS COLLECTED ONCE AGAIN AND WILL BE EVALUATED BY OUR R&D DEPARTMENT. NO DOUBT THERE WILL BE A FEW MORE PRODUCT IMPROVEMENTS AS A RESULT OF THIS CUSTOMER FEEDBACK. WE NOW TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK ONE AND ALL FOR MAKING OUR NINTH YEAR IN THE ANTENNA BUSINESS A SMASHING SUCCESS! WITHOUT YOU GUYS OUT THERE NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE. AFTER ALL THE SHOP TALK WAS OVER AND ALL THE BUSINESS WAS CLOSED UP ,IT WAS THEN TIME TO BE JUST ONE ON THE GUYS AND SEE WHAT GOOD DEALS WE COULD FIND OUT THERE! THIS YEAR WAS BETTER THAN EVER. THANKS AGAIN.

THE ORIGINAL "W5GI MYSTERY ANTENNA" TM "

The W5GI Multiband 80-6m Mystery Antenna

A multiband wire antenna that performs exceptionally well even though it confounds antenna modeling software... The design of the Mystery antenna was inspired by an article written by James E. Taylor, W2OZH, in which he described a low profile collinear coaxial array. This antenna covers 80 to 6 meters with low feed point impedance and will work with most radios, with or without an antenna tuner. It is approximately 100 feet long, can handle the legal limit. It’s similar to a G5RV but a much better performer especially on 20 meters. The W5GI Mystery antenna, erected at various heights and configurations, is currently being used by thousands of amateurs throughout the world. Feedback from users indicates that the antenna has met or exceeded all performance criteria. The “mystery” part of the antenna comes from the fact that it is difficult, if not impossible, to model and explain why the antenna works as well as it does. The antenna is especially well suited to hams who are unable to erect towers and rotating arrays. All that's needed is two vertical supports (trees work well) about 100 feet apart to permit installation of wire antennas at about 25 feet above ground. The W5GI Multiband Mystery Antenna is a fundamentally a collinear antenna comprising three half waves in-phase on 20 meters with a half-wave 20 meter line transformer. It may sound and looks like a G5RV but it is a substantially different antenna on 20 meters. Louis Varney’s antenna, although three half waves long, was an out-of-phase aerial. Mr. Varney had two specific reasons for selecting a 3 half waves on 20... he wanted a four-lobe radiation pattern, at least unity gain and a low feed point impedance. The Mystery Antenna, on the other hand, presents a six-lobe pattern on 20 meters, gain broadside to the antenna, and also low feed point impedance to simplify matching the antenna to the rig. Additionally, the Mystery antenna is designed to work at least as well, on the other HF bands as a G5RV. In short, the Mystery antenna is a sky wire that incorporates the advantages of a 3 element collinear and the G5RV antenna. In its standard configuration, a collinear antenna uses phase reversing stubs added at the ends of a center fed dipole. These stubs put the instantaneous RF current in the end elements in phase with that in the center element. In addition I am happy to announce we now offer the 75 ohm line isolator/quarter wave matching section of coax which W5GI recommends to flatten out the swr on 20 meters. This is a handy accessory if you plan on doing a lot of 20 meter work with the antenna. It enables the user to load the antenna without an antenna tuner. The swr is usually very close to 1:1 over a large portion of the 20m band. It connect between the 300 ohm line and the coax that goes to transmitter and has no effect on any other band. Now the 20 meter line isolator comes WITH a female to female uhf Barrel Connector which makes the connection to your coax much easier.

!!!!! This is the ONLY fully assembled "W5GI Mystery Antenna" endorsed By W5GI John Basilotto & It is the ONLY "W5GI Mystery Antenna" that is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office Serial Number 77-692,288, Reg. No. 3,805,448 and Filed 3/16/2009. So Beware of the cheap unendorsed imitations. If it doesn't say K4TR Antenna Mfg & Sales, IT'S NOT THE REAL DEAL. !!!!!

Joe, Thank you for the quick turnaround. Thought I would share the below with you in case you wanted to put a testimonial up on your site. "I ordered my original 80-6m W5GI from you back in 2013. Three years later and with only 100 watts, that antenna has snagged 185 countries from every continent (including Antarctica on 4-bands) for an 8-band Worked-All-Continents, a 3-band DXCC (with 40 almost done, 80 halfway done) and more than 600 DXCC Challenge points. In three years, no linear, no other antenna other than your magnificent wire in the air about 30 feet or so. I regularly bust pileups I never thought I had any business being able to bust, including Mozambique during the most recent ARRL DX SSB contest, when he was only S2-3 to me. Sadly, wind took it down recently, but a replacement is already on the way. To those who think you need an enormous antenna farm and tons of power to work the world and be competitive in contests, think again. Get this antenna, be persistent and listen, listen, listen. 73!" SEE WHAT MIKE HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE W5GI "MYSTERY ANTENNA"

Joe, Just got back from Costa Rica last night. Well I got to tell you about the antenna. I hired a local Taco kid to climb my trees and hang the pulleys. We got the antenna up about 85ft and put it in a flat top configuration. The dam thing screamed! I used a 706 with a LDG auto tuner and the 100w and I talked all over the US, Sweden, Africa, Europe, JA and VK. On 20m and 17m it worked great. On 40m into Europe and the US. On 80m I yakked with Gooby on 3945 and Jerry on 3902 more than once. Must have been the height huh? All in all I was tickled to death with the performance of the antenna on ALL bands. I left the whole setup there and secured for the next time, which hopefully will be around Christmas. The antenna will be there for any Hams that want to rent the house when we are not there. Thanks Joe, the antenna was very well constructed. 73 for now and thanks again. N9PYS Mike in Palm City,Fl.

SEE WHAT JOHN HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE W5GI "MYSTERY ANTENNA"

I just took delivery of your Mystery Antenna. And I have to say, when compared to the other versions I see on the web, your antenna wins hands-down. As a low power CW enthusiast, I couldn’t wait to get it in the air. Running just 5 watts with my Ten Tec Argo V and a Palstar AT4K Tuner, I worked a station in Belgium on 15 meters. While listening to the Belgian station transmit, I quickly switched between my 135 foot flat-top and my 4BTV vertical. In all cases, the K4TR antenna was 1 to 2 S-units better in performance. Operating on 75 meters, there was no discernible difference between the flat-top and the Mystery Antenna. But what I really enjoyed was the ability to get a nice match on all bands. I was never able to do this with my flat-top. Thanks for putting together a superior product at a fair price. John, WA4JM

SEE WHAT BOB K4IW HAS TO SAY ABOUT "THE W5GI MYSTERY ANTENNA 160-10 METERS"

Joe..just a note to let you know how pleased I am with the performance and quality of construction of your Mystery 160. I received it 3 days after ordering. I have done a head to head comparison between your 160 Mystery and my 530 ft closed loop antenna. There is little to no difference between them. So, for those folks that don't have room to put up a full 160 meter loop, I highly recommend your 160 Mystery Antenna. Bob, K4IW

SEE WHAT CHUCK KJ4LZU HAS TO SAY ABOUT "THE W5GI MYSTERY ANTENNA 40-6 METERS"

Joe, Thank you very much. I received the W5GI antenna this morning. WOW!!! I didn't expect delivery so soon. I sincerely appreciate your extremely quick response. The quality was beyond my expectations. I replaced my G5RV with the W5GI even though I had great success with a G5RV. I spent this afternoon speaking to Italy, Germany, Hondura, etc. I was looking for an antenna that would key in on 40/20 meters. I'm using a Yaesu FT-950 running barefoot (100 watts). Because of local covenants (Atlanta, Georgia), I am unable to install anything that is visible from the front street, so I'm somewhat limited to wire antennas in the back yard. You provided me with an extremely quick delivery and a qualilty product at a very reasonable price that went beyond my expectations. Thanks Joe. Thanks and 73s, Chuck Rose, KJ4LZU

Joe, I met you a few weeks ago in Brooksville to buy a mystery antenna. Just wanted to let you know it's works great so far. We got it up at about 40ft this past weekend and we were able to work 6 countries dx in the first few minutes. Thanks very much for meeting me and for the great antenna. Jim

    "ZS6BKW/g5rv MULITBAND ANTENNA"

ZS6BKW / G5RV What is it? ZS6BKW / G5RV. What is it? In the mid-1980s, Brian Austin (ZS6BKW) ran computer analysis to develop an antenna System that, for the maximum number of HF bands possible, would permit a low Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) without antenna tuner to interface with a 50-Ohm coaxial cable as the main feed line. He identified a range of lengths which, when combined with a matching ladder line length, would provide this characteristic.According to an acknowledged expert in computer antenna design and modeling, L. B. Cebik:". Of all the G5RV antenna system cousins, the ZS6BKW antenna system has come closest to achieving the goal that is part of the G5RV mythology: a multi-band HF antenna consisting of a single wire and simple matching system to cover as many of the amateur HF bands as possible. Both are good” antennas and will work well in defined situations. This presentation is not designed to “bash” the G5RV, but to possibly convince you or a new ham to enjoy the benefits of lower SWR, lower loss, and greater signal strength by using the ZS6BKW version of a ladder line fed dipole. With this computer optimized version of the ZS6BKW antenna we use 93 feet # 14 stranded copper wire for the horizontal elements and 36.5 feet of 1kw+ rated 300 ohm ladder line. It also consists of a PVC center insulator and another PVC enclosure that houses an SO 238 for easy connection to your 50 ohm coax cable. All in all this computer optimized version of the ZS6BKW of the world famous G5RV should work out quite well on most of the amateur bands.

    THE K4TR FOLDED DIPOLE

We are now proud to offer the classic Folded Dipole for use on 40 or 80 Meters. These well constructed antennas are excellent performers on which ever band that you choose. Each is constructed from High quality 300 ohm transmit ladder line NOT the flimsy TV wire that has been commonly used by others in the past. Other components consist of schedule #40 PVC and galvanized steel eye screws. Each antenna comes with soldering lugs installed at the end of the feed line for easy connection to a balun or your antenna tuning unit. This is an excellent way to high performance on a single band AND a little wider band coverage than with a single band dipole!! So what are you waiting for? Have that big signal that you have always wanted on the band.

This Antenna Comes With A Short Length Of Parallel Feed Line (cut for a specific frequency),K4TR Center Insulator, A 3M Ladder line To Coax Coupling Device(registered trademark), End Insulators, Details For Construction Of A Coaxial Choke Balun, And High Quality Stranded Copper Wire (not copperweld). All That Is Left Is To Connect The Feed line To The Antenna Tuner In The Shack And You Will Be Ready To Transmit On The Band The Antenna Was Selected For. It Must Be Emphasized That The DEZ-40L Antenna, With The Short Run Of Parallel Feed line And Choke Balun, Can Be Used In A Multi band Configuration. However Care Must Be Taken During The Tune Up Procedure As Extremely High Voltages Can Develop During Off Band Operations!!! It Is Highly Recommended That If The DEZ-L Models Of This Antenna Are To Be Used For Multi band Operation, A Balanced Antenna Tuning Network Be Used Connected Directly To Short Run Of Balanced Feed line Or To A Bulun And A Short Run Of Coax To Insure Best Results.

A Multiband Antenna That Enjoyed Considerable Popularity in The 1930's was Named for the Amateur Who Wrote a Comprehensive Article About It. The Antenna Consists Of A Half Wave Length Antenna on the Lowest Frequencey to Used, With a "Single Wire Feeder" Connected Off Center. The Antenna will Operate on the even Harmonic Frequencies, and Thus the Single Antenna Can be made to Serve on The 80-10 Meters Bands. The Single Wire Feeder Shows an Impedence of Approximately 600 Ohms to Ground, and Since The The Return is Through The Earth, a "Good Ground Connection" is Important to The Effective Operation of This Antenna. The Second Requirement is an External Antenna Tuner to match The SWR to The 50 ohm Output Of the Modern Transceivers. We Offer another Model of the off center fed antenna which Uses 300 ohm 1KW Rated Ladder line Instead of a Single Wire Feedline Attached To The Balanced Output Of The Antenna Tuner. This antenna is Configured Exactly the same as Our Other Model Just a Different Feed System and The Neccessity For "good" Ground system" Is Not High On The List of Required Elements To make The Antenna Work well. Either Antenna Is A good Choice For Multiband Operation. You Should Be Pleasantly SSurprised At Just How Well This Antenna works.

W5WAA HAS A FEW INTERESTING THOUGHTS ON THE G5RV 80-10 METER ANTENNA

Joe, I'm enjoying the 80-10 G5RV antenna I purchased from you a couple of months ago, it is far superior to the Cobra 140' antenna it replaced, best wire I've ever owned. I wrote a comment on it to eham and gave it a 5 (would have given it a 6 if they allowed it). I wish I had gotten the 160-10 model. Is it possible or advisable to just add the 51' of wire to each end and not disturb or hurt the performance of the 80-10? If this will work I'll order the antenna wire from you today. Thanks. Jim Hidalgo, W5WAA

Many "local" contacts also. I have everything set up so I can roll everything up and put it in a plastic box and be ready to hit the road. Your antenna is very satisfactory. Thanks so much. Best wishes. Barrett W5BJC"

"Joe, Just a quick note to let you know that I had bought an 80 meter G5RV from you a few years ago and it has worked great. I have moved to a new location with more property so I am ordering a G5RV for 160 meters. I have talked up your antennas to all of my ham buddys and I hope it has or will get you some business. My experience with your antenna has been great. The quality of your work is top shelf. Thanks for providing such great products to the ham community. Best regards, Steve Dziadik, WJ1T Westbrook, CT

SEE WHAT ROY K4SOL HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE DG-G5RV-AB 80/10

Hi: Just want to let you know I ordered the "classic" G5RV 80-10 antenna a few weeks ago. Got it up 35 feet and have been making contacts into England and all over Europe as well as all over the US and Mexico with 100 watts on 17 an 20. I have a vertical up already and have had the chance to make comparisons. I was very surprised to see that the G5RV outperforms the vertical even though it is up 20 feet higher, has hundreds of feet of ground radials and is in the clear.I was pretty skeptical about the preformance reports on the G5RV but as they say seeing is believing. I'm no antenna expert, but I can tell you it outperforms my vertical by far. I am so impressed with it that I have just placed an order for another one that I am going to put up in a different location. The build quality of you antennas looks good as well. 73 Roy K4SOL

THIS IS WHAT TOM IN LAKELAND FLORIDA HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE DG-G5RV-6 METERS

Recently I purchased a K4TR Antenna MFG. & Sales 3/2 waves G5RV doublet for 6 meters. I had been using a 1/2 wave dipole but the performance was pretty dismal. When the antenna arrived I could see immediately that it was built like a tank and would hold up well under most high wind conditions. I mounted the antenna at 35 feet above ground in a broadside north-south fed configuration and fed with 55 feet of 50 ohm hard line. The performance difference was immediately obvious with signal reports on transmit and receive 59 or better versus 44 to 55 with the dipole. 73 & God Bless, Thomas F. K4TR 160 METER VERTICAL "T" ANTENNA
      (MADE TO ORDER)

This Antenna Is Taken From A Time Proven Design. Constructed From durable,UV Resistant Parallel Feed Line(300 Ohm) And #14 Double Coated Stranded,Insulated COPPER Wire, This Antenna Performs Extremely Well On 160 Meters Because Of its Low Angle Of Radiation. This Is An Excellent Dx Antenna! You have the optional to place a matching device at the end of the 300 ohm line(the base of the antenna) or simply use the tuner in the shack which should be sufficient for matching the coax to the antenna. An interesting note is it will Not be Necessary To Have An Extensive Wire Radial System Under The Antenna. The more the better however. As few as 4-10 1/4 Wave Radials Should Be Sufficient To Make The Antenna Really "Sing"!!!! With my modest Modest Wire Counterpoise (12 1/8th Wave Wire Radials) I Have Observed That This Antenna Is As Reliable For DX Work As My 5/16ths Wave "L", And Appears To Be 3 to 4 S Units Quieter Than The "L". This Would Probably Be an Asset In An Urban Setting. Less Noise Pick Up. This Antenna Will Do A Good Job On the The 160 Meter Band.

Another more conventional Configuration Of This Antenna Consists of #14 stranded, insulated copper wire constructed to the same specifications as the balanced feedline version. The advantage of this model is that it is not necessary to have a tuning or matching device at the base of the antenna. Matching can be accomplished by either of the previously mentioned methods. It can be easily fed with 50 ohm coax at the base of the antenna as the impedence is about 30 ohms. The mismatch can easily increased to around 50 ohms by adding a radial system or counterpoise under the antenna and then matched by a tuner in the shack.

Standard Doublet/Vertical "T" with Switch Box

      Multi Wire Vertical "T"

I am happy to announce the introduction of a brand new antenna to the K4TR line of antennas. The "K4TR All-band 160-10 meter Doublet/Verical "T" antenna". This antenna has been field test by myself as well as NZ4O with great results. The focus was to construct an antenna which would work on all bands reasonably well, and would fill the need of amateur operators to have "TWO" antennas(switchable from the shack) for 160 meters. One Horizontally polarized for distances up 1000 miles(local rag chewing) and one vertically polarized with a low Take Off angle to work DX in excess of the 1000 mile mark. After more than year in the development stage and exhaustive field testing, the antenna has arrived that will fill all of these requirements. If you are looking for a really versitile antenna and have the space to put up a 60 to 70 foot vertical radiator, this is the antenna for you. The short technical description of the antenna is that antenna functions as a vertically polarized top loaded "T" when the shack activated relay is engaged and loaded up against a modest radial field (I use 36 1/8 wave radials). Deactivated the antenna becomes a horizontally polarized ladder line fed doublet for use on 160-10 meters. This is a very valuable tool, particularly on the 160 meter band. To date my log is full of contacts with Europe on SSB as well as CW, Australia,South America and Oceania, the Ural and Caspian Sea area of Russia and finally the Middle East (Turkey,Isreal and Cyprus). The antenna is constructed of the finest double coated UV resistant #14 stranded copper wire, heavy duty 300 ohm UV resistant ladder line, the K4TR Center insulator & Coax to Ladder Line connector, high quility coax connectors, relays, sockets, Zinc coated hardware and enclosures. The clickable link below will give you an idea of how the antenna functions. The switching unit is no longer available however it can be easily fabricated by the purchaser. Any other questions should be directed to to my email address listed at the beginning of this website. This is the antenna you all have been waiting for!! Get on the 160 meter band and have a really competative signal with all those so called "big guns"without the need for a high power linear in many cases!!!!! Don't let this band be a mystery any longer !!!!! Find out what you have been missing all your amateur career!! Come join us on the Band and get a multi band antenna as well all in one really neat affordable package.

      K4TR 160/80 METER INVERTED "L" ANTENNA
      (MADE TO ORDER)

Great way to get on the 160 meter band (or 80 meters) and start working the Dx. This classic antenna consists of a 1/4 wave(130 feet) length radiator and is connected to radials laid out on the ground or even buried under the ground. The radials can either be 1/4 wave length long or as short as an 1/8th wave length long. both will work well. This antenna is the easiest and most convenient way to discover the mysteries of the 160 meter band! I have have used this type of antenna in the past and found it to be a very good performer both locally and with dx contacts as well. Come join in on the fun on the 160 meters or even 80 meters!

SEE WHAT CHUCK HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE 160 METER INVERTED "L"

Hi Joe: I purchased one of these from you in the fall. I have to say I did not expect to be impressed by 130 feet of wire, but boy, what fine materials and workmanship! I was very pleasantly surprised. Nice, thick wire, does not unravel and make a mess or break like wire used by the others! I have the apex at 50 feet and dog tailed the horizontal section because of some interaction with one of my zepps. The horizontal section ends at about 40 to 45 feet above the ground. I used several copper ground rods, a fence post, a tie in to a 300 pound piece of iron that is sitting in the ground field, about 25 1/8 wave radials (I used 4 pair telephone wire, two pair speaker wire - from what I read, wire gauge is not too important, but protection against breakage is), as well as about 75 to 100 square feet of chicken wire - all of this over wet lands. not quite a swamp, but really, really wet. I work CW only - the SWR at 1800 is 1 to 1.2 - At 1840 - 1860 it drops to 1 to 1 - I can tune the entire 160 meter band with this antenna - the SWR does not exceed 2 until 1900...how's that? If we have a good rain the SWR at 1800 is 1 to 1. I would encourage all others who are worried that 100 watts and a simple inverted L with a small lot will not do much - they will do fine; I am working all sorts of DX on 160 - KH6 is the best yet (QTH is NW NJ). Would suggest not to rush the ground/radial installation - I did run the wires on top of the ground, but took care to pound all pipes and posts in as deep as I could and to use first class connectors and solder joints to tie everything together. Anyway, next time I need an antenna, you have my business. Thanks for 160 after 40 years! Chuck WB2YIP.

3 WIRE "K4TR BOBTAIL CURTAIN" VERTICAL ANTENNA
      (MADE TO ORDER)

The Bobtail Curtain is an excellent low angle radiator having broadside bidrectional characteristics. This antenna system uses the principle of co-phased verticals to produce the above mentioned pattern and provides (depending on who's book you read) 5/6db of gain over a dipole. The antenna performs as three phased top loaded verticals a quarter length wave high and spaced a half wave length apart. It is most effective for low angle signals and makes an excellent long-distance antenna for either 3.5 or 7 mhz. In order to have this antenna work to it's maximum an antenna tuner is a must at the feed point of the center vertical element. If this does not present a problem and if you have the space this is the primier DX antenna for 40 and 75 meters!!!!!!! We are not limited to only 40/75 meter versions of this antenna. We now offer a complete line of Bobtail Curtain antennas 80 through 10 meters as well. We now offer another configuration that is fed in the upper corner with 50 ohm coax. The advantage of this arrangement is the user does not not need a parrelel tuner at the base of the center element. The coax is then run to a standard tuner inside the shack. The need for an extensive radial field is no longer manditory. A standard ground connection shack is all that is necessary. I have to add that I have not tried this configuration and have no first hand knowledge about how well it works, but feedback from a recent customer tells how this configuration worked very well for him. Additionally this configuration models out quite well with the EZNEC computer program, so there should be no problem with the antenna. Either configuration is a great choice for a "Kick ass Low Frequency DX Antenna" . I have included two diagrams via the links below for a visual idea of the two configurations.

THIS IS WHAT RICK W3DIY SAY's ABOUT THE 40m CORNER FED BOBTAIL CURTAIN:

"Hi Joseph, On Monday we installed the K4TR Bobtail antenna. The entire length is supported with a 3/16" dacron rope and outdoor cable ties. The vertical elements are 6' above ground at the ends, 3' in the center. SWR was near flat in the CW portion of the band. I removed about 6" from each vertical element to lower the SWR at 7.130Mhz. I expected trimming this amount to have more affect, but I stopped there. Broadside faces central Europe which is my target area. The reference antenna is an end fed inverted L with a counterpoise of 60 100' radials. It is 80' vertical, 90' horizontal. Signal reports indicate the Bobtail is consistently + 2-4 S units compared to the L into Europe and with less QSB. With stations on the west coast the antenna appears to be selective . Central CA signals are +2 S units but South & North stations are down as much as 4 S units compared to the L. I read that top corner fed Bobtails exhibit a double lobe. If so could this be the reason for the CA signal reports? Do you have a model of this antenna to share? There is a surprise bonus. On 160M the antenna exhibits better S/N than my DX engineering 4 square receive array. 160M has come alive! Overall I'm delighted with the Bobtail performance. It has turned out to be the best bang for the buck at my QTH. 73 Rick W3DIY"

THIS IS WHAT JOHN WN4OAA HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE 30 m CORNER FED BOBTAIL CURTAIN:

"THE BOBTAIL CURTAIN ANTENNA is absolutely the best antenna I have ever had in 37 years. I am using the corner feed method on a 30m bobtail with the tails touching the ground, AND the gain is astonishing---an eyebrow raiser. The low takeoff angle allows me to hear and work DX generally an hour earlier than most hams (which means less competition). With 100 Watts I can work anything I hear, even busting pileups --- Europe, South Pacific, Tahiti, and more. Even dropping the power down to 500 milliwatts I can work Europe and DX. If you could only have one antenna, this would be IT! If you have the space for a full wave dipole, then you have the space for a bobtail. A real plus over a yagi due to its low visibility, not an eyesore, and 6db gain in two directions! ! 73 John WN4OAA "

THIS IS WHAT PAUL NG7Z HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE 30m CORNER FED BOBTAIL CURTAIN:

"Wow, another DX worked. Got V88HTL this morning. His azimuth from me is 299 and 7500 miles distant and in the general direction of the bobtail broadside. The bobtail is facing directly E/W. I switched between an HF6V, the 160M inverted L and the bobtail. The bobtail won hands down. Sweet! Now if I could only fit another one facing N/S, I'd have it made. I'm serious. My other bands are covered with yagi antennas for 40M and above and a big 80M square loop at 100 feet. I did check that 5N0OCH station and the bobtail again had a better signal."

2 WIRE "N4GG MODIFIED BOBTAIL CURTAIN" VERTICAL ANTENNA
      (MADE TO ORDER)

This antenna is an interesting modification of the standard Bobtail Curtain Antenna and was designed by N4GG. Consists of two 1/4 wavelength vertical radiators seperated by a 1 wavelength phasing harness. The entire array is fed in the center of the phasing harness with RG8X or any equivalent 50 ohm transmission line. The data supplied by N4GG suggests that this array will deliver between 3 and 5 db gain at a take-off angle of 20 to 23 degrees. The reason for the differences will be determined by the band of operation. All other data on this antenna is the same as the standard BTC and should make a very good Dx antenna for just about anyone.

CHECK OUT MY RESULTS USING THE 5/16th WAVE "L"

      Using my 165 foot 160 meter 5/16th wave "L" antenna with a vertical section of 57 feet and 4 elevated counterpoise wires at 15 feet and 8 ground mounted radials, I've worked 50 countries on 160 meters in the past two DX seasons with only 100 watts the majority of the time and occasionally using my Dentron Clipperton "L" amplifier at the 800 watt level. Better then 50% of my contacts were via SSB. Some contact examples:VE1ZZ Nova Scotia, Canada (100 watts) 59 1540 miles, NP4A Ponce, P.R. 59++, 58 with 100 watts 1200+ miles, DJ7AA Germany (800 watts) 599 4900+ miles, I4AVG Italy (800 watts) 59 4900+ miles, VK6HD & VK6VZ Western Australia (100 & 800 watts) 599 11300+ miles,Hawaii KH7R & NH7A (100 watts) 599 6000+ miles,Galapogos Island HC8N (CW & SSB) 59 4000+ miles, FO0AAA Clipperton Island (SSB & CW) 59 4000+ miles,CN8WW Morrocco(100 watts & 800 watts SSB & CW) 59 2000+miles.
